My Students

In United States History we talk about events, people and places. My students are often engaged and excited to hear stories of personal experiences of myself or others who have visited, witnessed or experienced something in "history." They are quite inquisitive and want to know more about these topics.

Though our school is wired for the latest technology, much of our equipment is outdated and limited.

At the speed in which technology advances, it is difficult for students to effectively harness technology to be utilized in the most optimal manner beneficial to their learning. The technology available to students outside of school varies greatly, making it challenging to achieve some of the objectives of their project-based learning. Historical inquiry is difficult for most students but many are willing to rise to the challenge. Many students are disappointed with the quality of their final products, because of the limited resources available to them at home and at school. Others are intimidated because of their limited knowledge of technological tools. Having these resources will address all of these needs and support more collaborative, dynamic learning. It would also open a world, though virtual, most students would not experience unless they visited these historical places.

My Project

Historical inquiry through project-based learning entails student investigation and exploration as well as documentation, verification, and presentation of their findings in a variety of final products ranging from written, visual and oral formats. Students perform best when they go out "into the field" to conduct research. The chromebooks will enable students to conduct research and collaborate with classmates about the events and people in history, experience virtual tours of the places where the events occurred and for them to document their findings as evidence in their various final products. Ultimately, the goal is for students to share their historical inquiry results and findings with their school and community and how such events, people and places impacted us on a national, state, community and individual level. Our students already have the desire to be knowledgeable citizens of the United States, with the chromebooks they'll have the means.

They will be able to experience the events, people and places they learn about in United States History on a more personal level through their historical inquiry and share their findings through various final products.

Essentially, it would build up their confidence as "historians." It would also fuel their desire to learn more about their country more intimately and to share what they learned with others how these events, people and places greatly impacted our lives.
