My school is rural, small, and community-centered. I teach 4K-8th-grade general music and choir, which means I get to see and build relationships with every single student in the building. This is only my second year teaching, but I am looking forward to seeing most students grow for over 9 years of their education! How exciting! One thing I love about my school is how community-centered it is and how families are really close-knit with the teachers, staff, and other families.
My students especially love to play instruments!
They light up when they walk in the room to see drums or xylophones out for them to play! One unique thing I particularly enjoy about my middle school students is their willingness to travel to nursing homes and the county special needs school to share music with other people! They are genuinely happy to be serving our community with music!
My Project
Slowly but surely, I have been adding one more mallet instrument to our Orff Ensemble. This last alto metallophone will make it possible for each and every student in my largest class to have an instrument to play! This will make such a huge difference in learning as each moment of music class will be hands on for everyone at the same time!
Adding a metallophone to the ensemble also will give our music a different sound, which will be great for different effects!
I am excited to not have to do everything in double for kids to let their partner have a turn. This will make learning so much easier!
I am also excited to use this new instrument with my after-school elementary choir/percussion group. They will be thrilled to have another instrument to work with!
