This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

It is so amazing when you can have someone that can hardly do anything else take or be handed a piece of paper and watch him or her shred it. I am a special education teacher that teaches vocational classes to students 9th -12th grade that have minor to severe disabilities. One of the students main goal in my class is to be able to operate a shredder. Teachers and staff from our school give us all papers that need to be shredded. We had three shredders in our classroom but are now down to one that is very unreliable. Our budget just keeps going down every year and now I am turning to whoever wants to make a difference to help my class by donating any amount to help buy us some new heavy duty shredders.

I have students that are non verbal or that have a hard time standing or sitting there to work on something but are taking a piece of paper and shredding it. They are actually working in class. This is such an amazing site to see. I always tell my students that someone could come and hire them just to be your personal shredders and what good shredders they are. It is a great feeling to see a smile on some of these students that are very low in what they can accomplish. They might be 9th-12th graders but their minds are those of pre-k to 1st grade with the exception of some at 3rd and 4th grade level.

Like I said before we had three shredders in class but are now down to one. Which on some days work and others not. I am asking for three brand new heavy duty shredders that will allow my students to take turn and get caught up on the shredding process. While some are shredding others are prepping the paper by getting it ready to be shredded. Because of the others shredders breaking down our paper has been continuing to grow in my classroom and taking up a lot of my classroom space. You might think shredding is not a big deal but when it comes to my students they are so excited that they are helping the other teachers and staff by getting rid of this paper. They are also learning why it is so important to shred the paper instead of just throwing it away.

Please help my students by donating an amount for 3 new shredders. Any amount will be grateful. This is strictly helping my students and will make things go so much smoother in class. For some of my students this might be the only job they will have ever had had in life.
