This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I currently teach in a high school in which many students have major challenges to overcome. Some of my students see the value of an education but lack the confidence in their ability to be successful due to these challenges. Our school is located in a rural area in which many students travel more than 30 miles one way in order to received an education. Because our school is in a high poverty area, most receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch. My students are unable to afford basic school supplies. Despite the many adversities that my students face, we do not allow these stumbling blocks to hinder our success. As teachers and a community, we still strive to work together to achieve excellence.
My Project
During the 2016-2017 the students at my school were able to accomplish something that had never been done in our school history, we moved to the second highest school rating. It is because of donors like you that made this possible. We were able to expand our knowledge beyond just the textbook and get more hands on experiences.
By using the heat press my students will be able to express their artistic side in order to create t-shirts, bags, and coasters about success and what they learn.
They will be able to not only learn business skills but also demonstrate their school pride in various ways. It is our plan to eventually open a school store to sale the items that the students create.
