Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

This is my first year back in middle school, teaching math and science in a 12:1 setting. I did not know what to expect, especially teaching at a new school. At least I knew I would play a role in developing college and career ready citizens. Yet, my students' skills, talents, and interests caught me by surprise.

In a short amount of time, "JM" was able to orchestrate a tableau and include his classmates.

"T " lead off the activity and "JO" cheered his elbow buddy on, encouraging him throughout the whole exercise. My kids were eager to tackle grade level academia and explore new concepts! After the "circle", I was hot and enthusiastic at the same time and had a realization. In a healthy and supportive environment, these students could accomplish their own set goals AND meet academic standards.

My Project

My students desperately need a portable air conditioner! Only select rooms have air conditioning. The school is not providing my 12:1 class with an industrial fan and my kids are suffering, especially during this heat advisory.
