My Project

My students are eager to make a difference in their community. We are creating a service-learning project to bring compassion, joy and care to residents at our local nursing home. With your help, my students will make care packages, write uplifting letters, and create artwork to brighten the days of our elderly neighbors.

This project will teach students empathy, social responsibility, and the importance of giving back- while helping nursing home residents feel loved, remembered, and valued.

My students are kind-hearted, energetic, and always ready to learn new ways to help others. Many come from diverse backgrounds and haven't had opportunities to engage in service-learning before. They are excited to build connections outside the classroom and learn that compassion can change lives.

Through this project, students will learn that compassion is not just a feeling, but an action. They will see how their creativity and thoughtfulness will bring joy to others who may feel lonely or forgotten. This hands-on service learning experience will show students the value of giving back, building a deeper understanding of empathy, responsibility, and respect for elders in our community.

As a teacher, I will measure the success of this project in multiple ways. My student will use reflection journals where they will write about how it feels to create for others, what they learned about compassion, and how they believe their efforts will impact the elderly. They will have class discussions where guided conversations about kindness, empathy, and service before and after visiting the nursing home. We will also gather feedback from the nursing home staff and residents about the impact of their kindness and gifts made by my students. Ultimately, success will be measured by students recognizing the power of their actions and understanding that compassion is an essential life skill.
