Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at one of those "inner city" schools! Yes, sadly, my students tend to come from tough home lives. Most are from single-parent households or are being raised by someone other than their parents. As their teacher, I recognize and feel this. I sometimes feel the pain they carry not only from their home life but also by the expectations that are placed upon them. They are expected to perform the same as all other students in the state without the benefit of some essentials needed to meet the standards.
It is not my place to judge, but rather to step up and lead by example.
How do I do this? By encouraging them on a daily basis. By supplying needs so they can be successful not only in the classroom today but in society as they move on from high school. Sometimes this is as simple as a pencil, paper and/or notebooks. But there are some things I can not afford on my own and this is why I am asking for your help.
My Project
I am an Exceptional Education teacher who has the privilege of working with a group of students who have different learning styles and disabilities. There is one area where most struggle and so do many of us. This area is focusing on the task at hand. These headphones will allow the students to not only focus on the assignments being taught through technology but they will also block out the ambient sounds which cause unnecessary distractions.
Individuals read at different speeds just as we listen as different rates.
This is why each student having a pair of headphones when they are in the classroom is a benefit to the comprehension of what is being taught. The students utilize these in multiple ways. One is where the text is read to them as they read along with the text. The second is where they listen to a lesson being taught. Since they have the headphones they can rewind to get different parts repeated.
End of Course testing begins in April and I would love to allow my students to use these headphones to prepare as they seek to demonstrate that they have also reached a proficient level of meeting standards.
