Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

The wonderful students who attend my school are located in an high poverty, urban neighborhood. Many of them live in single parent households with that one parent working two jobs. Others live with grandparents due to unfortunate circumstances through no fault of their own. They have tough lives but still seem to be happy kids. Our standardized test scores are historically low, but we were still fully accredited for the 2017-2018 school year! That is quite an accomplishment knowing their backgrounds.

My Project

My third grade students NEED 22 Califone headsets for computer usage in the classroom.

They LOVE to work on the computers but the excessive sound distracts in more ways than one.

First, it is very distracting for others around them. Secondly, it makes for a LOT of noise when attempting small group instruction.

These headsets would create a calmer, quieter environment for working in the classroom. Students try to turn the sound down or off, but sometimes hearing the programs is a necessity.

We ask for headsets on the supply list, but this request is rarely given a second look with the income of most on our parents.
