This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is one where all of our students are provided with a classroom and school environment that encourages academic and moral excellence, and conveys the worth and dignity of each child, the excitement and joy of learning, the beauty and wonder of life. A life that moves beyond self is the order that is essential to learning and living.

Our school is representative of our linguistically diverse community.

I teach over five hundred students each week. Over ninety percent of them are Hispanic, eighty-four percent are considered low-income and about fourteen percent are English Language learners. Our school is also unique. We have dual-language classrooms in each grade. Students are learning in two languages, English and Spanish simultaneously.

My Project

Two to three times a year, I invite parents to be part of my Physical Education program. In November, the second graders and their parents participate in a Thanksgiving Night Game Day. In the Spring, we hold tournaments such as dominoes or cup-stacking. Soon after the state standardized exams, the parents, teachers and students participate in Parents/Teachers vs. Students basketball game. In June, during the last week of school, we have a whole school field day. For all of the events, having wireless, bluetooth-speakers are a great advantage. I set up stations with small speakers. They have to hooked up to a mp3 player or a laptop. Instead, with the speakers I am requesting, I can set up the playlist or activities in the office or in a designated place. The parents and students will be able to hear loud and clear.
