My Students
Our classroom is a place where music and movement are indispensable to the learning process. We work and play together every day, learning, growing, and reaching out to each other as we endeavor to make a difference in the world.
Each student is unique and indispensable to our classroom community.
We call ourselves "OWLS" which stands for "outstanding, wonderful learners." And we do love to learn. Hands-on learning and inquiry-based discovery are key to our daily education. With many emergent readers, our classroom is an environment rich in literacy. Young students are engaged, exposed, and excited about reading and learning in general.
There is a positive energy that exists when entering our classroom. Our school is a new school where the theme of letting our individual songs soar is encouraged. We celebrate success, respect, and kindness and as such, these traits are in abundance. There is a enveloping sense of belonging within the walls of this new building. Students strive and thrive to be the best that they can be.
My Project
I currently have two sets of headphones in my classroom. However, the wait list and line-up to use them is endless. My students have a huge desire to listen to stories and be read to. They want to participate in educational apps on the ipads we are lucky enough to have in our classroom. Often several students will be playing games or listening to books and they will get confused because there are too many distractions and excessive volume in the classroom.
Comfortable, child-sized, individual headphones will allow students to focus and practice listening skills.
Furthermore, students will be able to engage in independent literacy and learning activities more often.
