This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in an urban school where one hundred percent of our students receive free lunch. Many of my students do not have enough money to purchase school supplies for daily use. Within my classroom, there can be up to twenty-eight students, all of whom are female. I want to give my students the advantage of having as many hands-on learning experiences with literacy and phonics as they can have, to make learning more engaging. I would really love to transition my room into a Reggio style classroom and need tools to help me.
When my students enter the classroom, I want them to be lost in learning and for that moment, forget all their hardships and understand that learning is fun.
I want them to know how to become independent in their own learning in various learning experiences. I want to set up exploration experiences for students to experience learning hands-on through exploration.
My Project
Phonics can be a very hard thing to learn for some students. Having the reading phones, blending boards, pocket charts and various cards will help bring phonics to students in a different way where they can have a hands-on approach to their phonics education. These tools would help students who need to manipulate objects to help them learn. In addition to being able to manipulate objects, students will be able to hear their self saying phonic sounds in the reading phones.
These tools will help us create a unique approach to learning phonics, making it hands-on, allowing students to hear phonics.
