Healthy Water, Healthy Children, Part 3

My Students

The demographics at my school consist of 65% Black students, 30% Hispanic or Latino students, 2% White students, 11% English language learners, and 33% of students who have special needs.

Most students come from low-income households or live in foster homes and shelters.

Many families are single-parent households and working families. We are a Title I school in Harlem. All of our students receive complimentary breakfast and lunch daily. The students at my school are a mixture of different types of learners. My students come from a diverse community.

My hope is for all the students at my school to water to drink throughout the whole school year!!

My Project

Since the COVID pandemic began last year, to keep students from infecting each other while drinking the water fountains in our school, they have all been shut down or closed off to students. Now students have no means to drink water when they want to. Recently I got a Brita water dispenser for my classroom so my students can drink filtered water when they need to, especially after they have movement breaks or after recess. My students love drinking water whenever they want to or need to. I also provided them with their own water bottles to fill up with water to drink.

Drinking clean, filtered water will keep students hydrated, focused, and ready to learn!!

I was thinking that other students from the other classes also need to drink filtered water, especially with the Brita filters that reduce lead from the sink water. I hope that this project will help other students from my school to have water to drink when they need to. This is a necessary project for the students in my school!!
