Healthy Students Learn Better, Nutritious Snacks Fuel Learning
My students need healthy snacks, basic hygiene kit, cleaning spray solutions, and facial tissues to keep everyone healthy, germ free and safe in the class everyday.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are exposed to several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning.
My students need healthy snacks and basic hygiene kit .
They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day.
My Project
Students who eat healthier food or snacks in between the school hours perform better in school. Healthy students get better grades, attend school more often and behave better in class. We now know that making time for nutrition in school is not a break from academics; it’s an investment in higher academic performance. Having a clean and germ free environment also promote good attendance and class participation.
My extraordinary students need Clorex wipes, hand soap, hand sanitizer, and access to healthy snacks in between the academic hours in order to reach their full potential.
There is pretty solid evidence that children who are hungry are not able to focus, so they have a low attention span, behavioral issues, discipline issues in the school. Having children who are well-fed and not hungry makes a difference in their individual performance and also how much they are contributing or disrupting the classroom situation. Extra nutritious snacks is critical for a child's brain and for concentration and learning at school. With your extraordinary advocacy and help, we will help each student combat learning gap.
