My Students

I am an EC teacher who works at a high risk Project Lift School that has mostly minorities and ESL (English as a second language) students. My school is a PreK - 8th grade school in an urban area of North Carolina and nearly all of our students are living in poverty. I work with a selection of First grade and Middle School Special Education students in Science, Social Studies and Reading. Many of my students are below grade level readers and ESL students who have physical and cognitive disability, difficulties learning complex material, vocabulary, fluency, sight word recognition, reading issues and many other learning issues. The students I work with are trying to succeed while coping with a variety of learning, speech, physical and cognitive disabilities. My students are all working at different levels when it comes to reading and comprehension. Despite all these challenges, they are here every day and working hard to be the best that they can be!

Some of my students are on a Pre-K level when they are suppose to be at a mid level First grade.

They are trying to catch up with the other students their age and grade level while also trying not to fall further behind.

My Project

The materials that im requesting are greatly needed supplies to restock our current supplies for the EC students and office. The lab provides individualized education plans for students with learning and cognitive disabilities. Here they receive extra support for English Language Arts, science, social studies, and reading. While teaching and interacting with little learners we go through a lot of supplies, both educational and hygiene. Some of our little learners are still getting the hang of their hygiene and cleanliness. This in turn leaves a lot of smells and accidents that happen from time to time. We also have to deal with a lot of germ passing through handshakes and bathroom accidents. We as teachers do not want to get ourselves sick, because how can we teach and be effective to our learners if we are not at school because we are sick. We also can not expect and hope for the best for our learners if they are sick and missing school. The materials I'm requesting will help great replenish the supply of hygiene and educational products. When it comes to reading and comprehension having the necessary materials and books for the appropriate levels that the students are on allows myself and the student’s access to a variety of learning conditions at each student’s level.

This helps them develop the skills that they are struggling in like fluency, vocabulary, word recognition. We are working hard to ensure that in two years, 90% of our students will be reading on grade level. I expect each of my students to be successful. I cannot ask them to meet my high expectations without the tools that are needed to succeed. I want to let my students know that I care about their education and expects them to succeed in school by supplying them with the proper supplies and materials that they need. Without the correct supplies, they may not be able to complete the lessons at hand or have what they need to have the most successful school year that they can.
