Beginning in 2013, a group of teachers and parent volunteers came together to form the first Girl Power group at our school. In our first year running the program, we had 33 enthusiastic 4th grade girls registered to participate and had a very successful year. For the 2019 school year, we are hoping that our program will grow and we will be able to assist in the physical, social and emotional development of the majority of upcoming 4th grade girls.
Our Girl Power program consists of highly motivated girls willing to push themselves and each other to become the best they can be physically, socially and emotionally.
They encourage each other to maintain healthy friendships while learning about their own relationships with fitness and health.
Our girls are unique. They come in every shape and size, but the one thing that they have in common is the drive to have fun and be part of a program that will hopefully change their social perspectives. This positive way of thinking will help them make the transition easier from an elementary school setting to middle school.
My Project
Everything we do in Girl Power is for the betterment of our girls. Our time, money and commitment to the outcome of the program and the success of each and every member is of the greatest importance. We want to ensure that each girl of the Girl Power sets an attainable goal whether that be in relation to having healthier friendships or possibly more stamina when running and participating in physical activity. We want to give each girl the means to meet their individual goals and we are asking for your assistance.
We have scheduled a certified nurse to talk to the girls about health and hygiene regimens and various certified fitness instructors to show the possible range of fitness programs available to them such as yoga, Zumba and Pound.
It must be noted that each of these wonderful "educators" are volunteering their time to our program.
As we educate our girls, we would also like to give them the tools to implement what they have learned. We are asking for financial assistance to purchase "hygiene bags" for each of the girls. The bags include toiletries such as deodorant, shampoo and conditioner and toothpaste.
