Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a guidance counselor in a low-income, high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many of the students at our school have experienced trauma in their lives, have academic and behavioral challenges at school, and receive a free or reduced lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical."

When basic needs are not met, the children we work with are not able to be present, and learn how to be good students.

We have implemented a mentoring program for our top neediest children that allows students to get a healthy snack in the morning and a reward at the end of the day when they meet their goals.

We may not be able to control their home lives, however, we can certainly impact their experience during the school day.

My Project

For many of our students, a healthy breakfast or getting to school on time are major barriers. We have identified our top 10% of students to be involved in a Check-In Check-Out program to provide a morning healthy snack and a positive adult to check in with daily to track if students meet their goals.

We need healthy snacks to start their days and fun treats to reward their accomplishments!

Your donation will help our students to get off to a healthy start and support their mornings being successful. A healthy meal and a friendly face is a great way to start their day! With a full stomach, our students will be ready to be good learners and friends!
