This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
The students at my school often find themselves hungry throughout the day -whether due to an active lifestyle, being snackers vs meal-eaters, limited access to food, or due to struggling with body image related issues. While some can purchase snacks, they will often reach for very unhealthy options. Many others cannot afford to purchase snacks or need someone to encourage them to eat and will just go hungry, which affects their ability to focus and participate in their classes.
This project is filled with healthier options that I know my students will gladly eat if offered.
It can both provide for those struggling and the ones who just need to be steered away from all the sugar and chips.
In addition to the snacks, I’ve also included some personal hygiene items. After doing a trial run of some spray deodorant in class and finding it to be greatly appreciated, I am needing more of that for girls and want to start offering it in our personal care basket for the boys to use too. This helps encourage kids to freshen up to avoid any embarrassments or discomforts at school.
