This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students come from diverse backgrounds, most from families below the poverty line. Many are first generation and several are new immigrants. In order to focus on their learning they need a boost of energy from a quick and healthy snack. As the school counselor, I provide a safe space to talk and refocus on their academic needs. I get a chance to check on their academic, social and personal goals and obstacles. Having a snack during the conversation helps ease the tension and allows me to focus on the task.
