Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I teach a rambunctious group of 8 and 9 year-olds at a Title 1 school. This means that many of them come from economically disadvantaged families. My students have a 3 hour stretch between breakfast and lunch. I provide snacks for them when I am able, but when I am not, many of them go without nourishment in the in-between period. I would love to be able to provide them with a healthy snack on a more consistent basis.

When students are hungry, it is difficult for them to focus on their lessons.

When I provide snacks, like fruit and baked crackers, it ensures each student will have a healthy snack option that provides the extra nutrients they need for healthy bodies. It will also increase their energy levels and satisfy their appetites in between breakfast and lunch.
