My students need healthy snacks. Our cart consists of a variety of Annie's snack foods as well as other healthy, organic and minimally processed foods.
My students are special education pre schoolers living on the country side of Oahu. Many of our students come from low income families where nutrition is subject to what is most affordable. 50% of our school qualifies for free and reduced lunch so healthy options aren't common.
Many times, students are sent to school without a well-rounded breakfast if they eat at all.
Snack time is a key part of our morning routine and I'd like to ensure they have access to the healthiest options.
Our school participates in the Aina in Schools program which fosters healthy eating habits through garden education. A large part of this curriculum teaches the importance of eating minimally processed, "close to the source" foods. I would love to be able to provide snacks that align with this school-wide initiative.
Unfortunately, the healthiest options are often the most expensive and it is not realistic to expect the parents to be able to provide them. Please help us feed our keiki snacks that will give them a shot at optimal health so they can learn, grow and thrive!
My Project
More often than not, students come to school with candy and chips for lunch leaving them lethargic, fatigued and in gastric distress making our jobs as teachers near impossible. We need snacks that will not distract our students from learning and give them examples of how to maintain optimal health throughout their lives.
Organic and minimally processed snacks will allow our students with varying disabilities to maintain optimal health and focus as they learn and grow.
Giving them healthier options will avoid the blood sugar crash and other stomach upsets that might hinder learning.
Please help us create a snack time that is kind to their bellies and kind to the earth.
