My Students
I teach an amazing group of 3rd grade students. We are a culturally diverse school with many students who are English language learners. Despite their challenges, they are very inquisitive and eager to learn.
My school is a Title I school which means most students qualify for free breakfast and lunch.
We strive to meet all of their needs as they strive for academic excellence. Their tenacity to learn encourages me to create a fun learning environment so they are actively engaged in learning every day.
My Project
My students need their basic essential needs met in order to focus in school. Healthy snacks lead to increased energy and the ability to focus. There are times when my students tell me their stomachs hurt and often ask if it will be lunchtime soon. When they are hungry they can't focus on their work. Students need to refuel their bodies throughout the day with healthy snacks to fill nutritional gaps. Their bodies are still growing and they need healthy options for a balanced diet.
Healthy snacks will help them boost energy and focus on academics.
Healthy eating as children helps build a foundation for healthy eating as adults. These essential materials will help my students meet their basic needs of food. This will fill a basic need that is not being met otherwise. It is essential to my students to have well balanced snacks in order to concentrate better in school.
I also send snacks home with my students so they have something healthy to eat in between their meals. Having a snack to take home helps them focus on their homework better. Knowing that they have a nutritional snack to bring home makes them happy. They enjoy sharing what they've learned about healthy eating habits with their families.
