My Students
My 6th and 7th grade PE students are both experiencing middle school for the first time. The 7th graders weren't on campus last year so it is new for them to be using lockers, PE lockers, and moving from class to class, rather than opening new zoom meetings. It is very exciting, but also overwhelming, and a bit of anxiety mixed in, but they are catching on to the flow of things.
My school is 70% socioeconomically disadvantaged, and 40% ELLs, with a very culturally diverse student body.
They seem to be eager to be back on campus with their friends and ready to learn.
My Project
I want to keep my students healthy during PE by offering sunscreen to protect their skin, reusable bottles to stay hydrated and save the planet, and a water mister to stay cool on hot days. Fit Dice will provide a fun way to get a workout done on conditioning days. Pads will be available in the girls locker room to allow students to feel confident while exercising instead of worrying about leakage. Jolly Rancher's can be an occasional incentive or reward.
A large whiteboard will help give visual cues for my many ELLs while I explain instructions to a game.
It helps to have a reference instead of asking me again. A megaphone with rechargeable batteries will help save my voice and students hear, thus saving time, not having to repeat myself or call students closer. Sharpies will be used to label their PE uniforms. A clipboard with storage, folders, and labels will keep my classes organized. The book was highly recommended by another teacher friend in an urban setting.
