Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds in Houston, Texas. About 85% of my students are eligible for free or reduced rate lunch.

Most of my students have Latin roots and are first-generation citizens.

During fitness time, seeing the students using up their energy and having fun gives me joy. They get the opportunity to learn how to maintain healthy lives and to keep moving. The downside is most of them don't get the right nutrition to replenish their body, which can take a toll on their body during a week time.

I have also assisted with starting the basketball team back up so that the students can have fun after school while learning what it means to be a part of a team and being a good sport.

My Project

My project will be providing healthy juices to replenish their bodies, most of my kids think hot chips and Gatorade are healthy snacks. Over a weeks time performing in gym and after school, breaks their body down and unhealthy eating tends to take a toll on the body as well. Creating a lack of energy, then we send the students into the classroom to perform their best, when they're not at their best. The juices will be filled with vegetables and fruits. My project will be more geared towards, the preparation of the child, this will create a foundation for teachers to build on.
