My Students

I teach math to some pretty amazing fourth graders. My students come from very diverse cultural backgrounds, and many receive free or reduced-price lunches. I also teach students who are learning English as their second language and students with an individualized education plans with learning goals.

Despite our differences, math unites and pushes my students to think beyond our classroom walls to apply concepts they learn in class to real-world scenarios and problems.

My Project

With high demands on academics with today’s standards, students sit at their desks for longer periods of time. My students need movement to help them focus and complete their work in a positive way.

Imagine a classroom where students are allowed to wiggle, move, and bounce all to support their learning.

Bouncy bands allow students to move and bounce their feet in order to release energy throughout the school day in a way that is appropriate, unnoticeable and distraction free.My students will greatly benefit from having bouncy bands at their desks as they work. Being able to release their built up energy will free up their minds to stay focused on the lesson and/or assignment. These bands will also help to relieve my students test and social anxiety by reducing stress levels. This will be a great addition to my classroom for my active learners.

The weight sets will also help me instruct my students on making healthy choices when picking food and drinks to eat. Providing my students with the opportunity to see and feel what an ounce or pound of sugar really feels like will hopefully help them select food with a deeper understanding and purpose.
