Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My transitional kindergarten class in composed of mainly Hispanic and a few African American students. My students are either immigrant students or first generation born here in the U.S., with the exception of a few. My students are eager to learn about themselves and also about their environment. Students all receive free state meals. Most of our students are economically disadvantaged.
Our school is located in a rough neighborhood, Our students feel safe when they are in school.
Transitional kindergarten is a year where students have the opportunity to develop, not only emotionally, or socially but academically as well. It is truly a great start to an excellent education.
My Project
My students will benefit greatly from having a manipulative library in our classroom because this library will help them build eye/hand coordination as they link, push and snap the pieces together. This manipulative library will also help them construct complex objects and designs, which in turn will help them develop a healthy, and creative mind. The Magna-Tiles will give my students a fun, hands-on way to explore colors and shapes as they build their own structures. The Bristle Builders will give my students the opportunity to interlock parts and take them apart as they explore building houses, cars, trees, and much more shapes.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
