Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The first few weeks of school help establish a sense of community that lasts for the school year. We spend these first few weeks having community meetings, team building, and learning classroom routines and expectations, which all help students feel safe and successful in the classroom. Students also feel safe and connected when their basic needs are met.

When students come to school and know that their basic needs will be met without question they are more likely to participate and engage in classroom lessons and activities.

Providing students with easy access to menstrual hygiene products, deodorant, and hair ties my students can confidently enter the classroom and participate in activities without embarrassment. Having snacks available for days when breakfast is missed, or an afternoon pick-me-up is needed help students to stay focused and on track. A tiny Jolly-Rancher treat can boost morale and lessen pressure during assessments and public speaking moments. And hand sanitizer and Kleenex help keep everyone healthy.

With the help of donors like you my students can start the year with healthy minds, healthy bodies, and a healthy classroom environment.
