This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from poor inner-city neighborhoods. All receive free lunch and struggle to afford basic school supplies. Most are motivated to achieve so they can pull themselves out of poverty and create a better life for themselves and their families.

My students need to be empowered to lead a healthy, safe, disease-free lifestyle.

Healthy bodies and calm minds lead to peaceful hearts. Once students learn how to instill this discipline into their lives they'll have the key to a happy future.

My Project

I would like to expose my students to the literature that addresses how racism and justice affect health. A mixture of fiction and non-fiction books will keep them interested in learning new material.

My students are very diverse, both ethnically and intellectually, so having a variety of books from which to choose personalizes their education.

They love working in groups and then presenting to the class what they have learned together. These books will bring another dimension into my Health classes and help my students understand what systemic racism is and how it impacts health.
