Help me give my students a clean classroom that uses Clorox wipes to disinfect our tables and our mostly used areas in our room, tissues to treat runny noses, and hand sanitizer to keep us all well.
How can we expect refugees, immigrants, and asylee students to succeed in school and become positive contributors to the society in which they live if they are technologically disadvantaged and cannot read to learn new material and content in the world around us?
Most of my students have experienced great loss in their short lives, however, they have everything to gain.
Our students deal with daily pressures such as navigating the social services system, public transportation, the language barrier, social norms, leadership roles within their immediate families, and ultimately set a goal of graduating with a high school diploma all within the first few months of arriving in their new country.
My Project
My students do not have access to immediate health care to treat the common cold or sniffles. The best way for us to treat this is with prevention. Good hygiene by using Purell hand sanitizer, tissues, and cleaning with Clorox disinfectant wipes will ensure we keep the classroom as germ free as possible.
Healthy kids can be in school.
This is a very hard time of year for our kids when it comes to health. They need all the prevention they can get. Healthy kids are in school and don’t have to catch up. This is our goal. Keep them healthy. Keep them in school everyday.
Also, our students are always in need of organizing supplies like index cards and highlighters to help them learn and memorize important information. Further, since many of our students come with trauma and issues with mental health and wellness we find that they want to sit on the floor and sometimes work with a clipboard instead of a desk. It feels a bit more familiar in some cases. The blue cushions will help to keep kids comfortable as they work if they choose to sit on the floor. We use lamps in our room to keep our students relaxed and they take batteries so the Duracell batteries help alleviate some of the cost associated with keeping these comforts available in our classroom.
