This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Imagine a middle school with no cafeteria, no auditorium, and NO GYMNASIUM. This is our reality each day. Attempting to be creative with a student population (6-8) of students in an underserviced, underfunded alternative school requires creativity, teacher funds, and adaptability.

Physical education, yoga, and mindfulness are essential to an adolescent's growing mind and body.

Inadequate space and funding challenges teachers as necessity is truly the mother of invention. Our marginalized students try to be creative during their free time and physical education periods, often wandering around the school or throwing a ball around. But wouldn't it be swell to have gym equipment that can easily adapt to a classroom our patio outside?

Our students would be overjoyed with equipment they could actually use to positively interact with each other, learning the much-needed life skills of collaboration, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. Please help us make this dream a reality. The majority of our students are special education-identified students with social, emotional, and behavioral deficits. Our Title 1 school is 100% free and reduced lunch and serves a population comprised of bright, energetic, and passionate students who can blossom if given the right tools.
