Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in the office specifically the nurse's office and students visit frequently depending on their need/concern.
At AHS we have students with health conditions but students without health conditions come to see us as well.
I had requested snacks, if a student misses breakfast or is a diabetic and running low those would be available to them.
The pads/tampons would come in handy when students unexpectedly get their periods. When on their periods students experience nausea and other symptoms, the mints would be used to soothe an upset stomach or to aid digestion.
Instead of those with health conditions having to go home due to forgetting their diabetic supplies or waiting for a parent to bring them, they would be able to check their blood sugars with a backup one and we would have eliminated valuable wasted learning time driving back and forth. Accidents happen sometimes and they get hurt during school, while teachers have band-aids in their classrooms sometimes we are in need of more than just band-aids like for example elastic bandages. We would use those to wrap their ankles, wrists, and/or knees.
Anxiety represents the most common class of mental health problems in the United States. A study proposed that an art therapy intervention "working with clay" could be an effective tool for reducing anxiety among students. Students have a life outside of school and we do not always know what goes on at home. When they just need a break and a moment to themselves something as simple as the anxiety clay might just make a difference in helping them refocus and make it possible for them to continue the rest of the day, especially those with mental health needs.
