My Students
My students have been away from school since March. They are eager to return to school. In our classroom we function like a family in an environment that promotes positive social interactions around respect, responsibility, and safe behaviors.
We embody the Hawaiian values of aloha, malama, kuleana, and kokua.
We care for one another and promote kindness to everyone and focus on our responsibility to our community and island. My students work hard, they have a growth mindset that drives them to want to reach their goals and they encourage their peers to do the same.
I hope to continue their love of learning and encourage them to be interested in the world around us, even though we will face new challenges in this era of COVID-19.
My Project
My school has selected a hybrid model for the new school year, which means that students will have partial face to face learning and partial at home learning. Students will have to follow physical distancing rules and healthy hygiene. I would like to have touch less soap and hand sanitizer dispensers for students to stay clean during face to face contact. Students will also have their own plastic bin to contain all their learning materials, which will stay separate from other students materials. Each student will need their own individual white board, so they can show me their thinking from their own desk areas. The whiteboards are also clipboards, so if we decide to take learning outdoors, we can have a surface to write on.
Students also need individual tools for engagement and participation at home.
A challenge with at home learning last spring was that my students did not have tools at home to interact. I'd like to be able to send home base ten and money kits for each student, as well as a write and wipe pockets for interacting with our distance learning lessons. The teacher easel will be helpful for me to be able to have a white board to use close to my computer so that students can see what I am doing. A challenge I faced with online learning was the lack of digital resources. The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will be needed to purchase ready made materials for student online learning.
