My Project

Our PE department has a goal to build lifelong learners that are physically active and motivated to make healthy choices through various activities. Physical activity impacted all students during COVID- 19 due to lack of access to equipment, gyms, and more access to screens, including completing Physical Education online. A new Fitness Walking/Hiking course encourages students to get outside and be active, while enjoying beautiful Colorado. This course will introduce the skills and knowledge of Fitness components, teaching students to build individualized workouts focused on progression at their own developing level of fitness.

The goal for including heart rate monitors for all students is to advocate individual progress in meeting healthy target zones for overall well-being.

The heart rate monitors will support several other courses within the PE department. Thus, meeting hundreds of student’s personal physical needs. Heartrate Monitors would allow students to understand the various levels of heart rate zones and take ownership in their different abilities. The heart rate monitors allow students to learn their personalized target zone and to have a visual representation of how they are performing in being physically active. Through various fitness activities that encourage walking at target levels and hiking, students will be able to understand how they can be successful and grow in their overall well-being. COVID-19 highlighted the need for students to disconnect from their addictions to phones and social media sites, as well as the value in socializing in personal ways with others around them. The new Fitness Walking/Hiking class is an opportunity for students to disconnect from their phones, engage with others, as well as see how they can individualize their own fitness plan to meet their unique needs.
