My students need granola bars and fruit snacks for healthy snacks throughout the day. Late to school and no food to fuel thinking, this food will enhance student performance.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Good nutritional health is essential to learning. A starved mind comes with an empty belly. These are the quotes I have used in my professional life as an educator. The regular experience of seeing students with candy and high sugary content treats are not serving my students.
My students are coming from impoverished homes.
My school is a Title I school. Students who need glasses are going through each day of their school life without glasses. Students who need dental and medical care, are not receiving it.
My students are defensive and their reading levels are below grade level. They can be heard regularly saying, "I don't like to read."
All of the teachers in the school work very hard to support our students and do remedial skill building to empower our students. Our work pays off, and many of our graduates achieve a college degree.
My Project
In my art studio classroom, students regularly ask me for granola bars and fruit snacks. This classroom is student friendly and students reveal many personal needs and passions. These life essential resources will allow students to have a friendly location, where they can feel comfortable asking for something to eat, without ridicule or judgment.
These resources will charge student rigor for use of their imaginations, creativity, and productivity. Students are engaged in art making, and we use a wide array of materials. Citywide competitions and exhibitions are participated in by our school, and our District Office is the lucky recipient of many of our students artwork.
Many of our students receive scholarships and internships to participate in during their four years with us.
My students essential needs will be addressed by having a nutritional snack they can rely upon in my classroom.
Their participation in their classes will be enhanced, their attendance will improve, their productivity will increase, and learning will be enhanced. Student capacities to engage at a higher level of cognitive rigor will increase, and that will improve student self-esteem.
