This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Health education in a high school located in an urban setting of high poverty. My students are mostly freshmen with a few upperclassmen. A large population of my students have different learning styles and challenges. Teaching from a textbook is not the most effective method of delivery of instruction for most of my students.
Learning to make good decisions about ones' health is an invaluable skill that I would like to give my students. But does Health class have to be boring? Absolutely not! There are so many resources available now on the World Wide Web. From the National Institute of Health to the website of the publisher, Glencoe, there are so many interesting and interactive activities to pique the interest of all Health students.
To bring the World Wide Web into the classroom, a notebook computer is necessary. I plan to project the websites onto a screen so that all students can take part in the lesson at the same time. A notebook computer would also play the DVDs that we have to augment our curriculum and allow them to also be projected on a large screen in front of the classroom. I expect the students to be both interested and excited by the use of technology in the classroom.
Your help in funding this project will open up new educational experiences to my students. I believe that Health education is one of the most important parts of the high school curriculum. My students are very worthy of your financial investment in their health.
