This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students at Hoover School need playground equipment! The school is located in a low income area of Redwood City. Over 75% of the students receive free or reduced lunch and an equal number are English language learners.
School is an exciting, fun filled place to be for our students. For most children, school is the only place they can play safely outside and learn and practice games like basketball and soccer. However, these kids are currently "hanging out" at recess with no playground equipment to use. These kids need to get moving and play during recess.
Our school is in desperate need of outdoor play equipment. Over 250 students in 4th through 6th grade will benefit from this grant. The money will be used to purchase several playground balls and soccer balls for every classroom to use at recess and PE.
It is vital that these students are physically active. With an increase in childhood obesity and a lack of opportunity to play sports at home these students would benefit greatly from being active at school and burning off some of their energy in a positive way.
Please support this grant for playground equipment for our students. It will help them grow into active and healthy young adults while teaching them that exercising can be fun.
