Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The pandemic has had far reaching effects on our students. They are more stressed and anxious than ever before and many have difficulty expressing their feelings. For that reason, it is more important than ever to teach coping skills and pay attention to their social emotional needs, as well as their physical health. We practice breathing and mindfulness, discuss and journal on gratitude, learn about wellness in our bodies, minds and emotions, discuss the importance of kindness to ourselves and others, and try to celebrate everyone.

Our students need equipment to practice mindfulness and some physical movement both at home and at school.

We have theme days like Mindfulness Monday, Grati-Tuesday, Wellness Wednesday, Thoughtful Thursday and Fun Friday. We do breathing and relaxation exercises as well as learn about physical, mental and emotional health.

These materials will help bring our practices to the next level. Yoga mats, as well as a stretching strap and a yoga blanket will expand our practice. A fitness bench, weights, and balancing Bosu-Ball will help us work on balance and strength training. We also need towels and water bottles. Calm Strips will help with remembering to practice mindfulness. Calm strips are textured stickers with mindful breathing exercises on them. Our students can use them to help them breathe in stressful situations. All of this equipment will be a huge benefit to our students.
