Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The materials we receive will be used to grow our wellness project that began prior to COVID 19 and has started up again since return to school. This project is a collaboration of 5 Special Education Teachers and a Speech Therapist who decided to adopt a body/mind curriculum Smart Brain Wise Heart (developed by Heartmath Institute) in order to teach our students strategies to increase focus, reduce anxiety, and decrease impulsivity.

In addition to the weekly curriculum lessons, we have created a Wellness Room where students learn yoga, practice mindful exercises, creative arts and playful activities.

We have found the students look forward to participating in the activities and these materials will enhance their learning.

Our high schoolers love making glitter bottles and use them in class as well as at home. The expandable balls will be a way to demonstrate to students ways to deepen the breath relax and finally yoga blocks will allow for modification to yoga postures.
