My Project

Stationary bikes in a middle school classroom. Enough to make any student, teacher, admin, or guest do a double take. What may seem strange to some, I know is an untapped opportunity to establish more meaningful learning experiences for our students. While students actively engage in physical activity, their attentiveness will naturally align with our unique hands-on class that focuses on health sciences.

Not only will students appreciate the alternative seating opportunity in the classroom, but they will knowingly improve their physical and mental well-being.

Through our curriculum, they’ll also dive into important topics like first aid, CPR, anatomy, and nutrition, all while exploring a variety of health science fields. It is proven that both learning and attentiveness increase when students can get their bodies moving.

I have a vision of creating a one-of-a-kind classroom environment. These stationary bikes will serve as the centerpiece of a classroom that masterfully blends movement and learning. Besides these bikes, I plan on incorporating workout bands, mini ellipticals, and mini bikes under tables to allow every student a unique learning experience that highlights a strong understanding of physical and mental health. I teach at a school that consistently tests amongst the best schools in all of South Carolina. Through my unique classroom environment, I am certain I can create a lasting memory that directs students on a path to becoming the country's next generation of great doctors, nurses, physical therapists, trainers, nutritionists, and more.
