Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
For many students, our school serves as home away from home. As their teacher, I would like to be able to provide them with resources they need to feel great while they are here.
When students feel safe, comfortable, and healthy at school, academic and emotional progress is much easier to achieve, and making basic personal hygiene products available in my classroom will help ensure this.
Students often come to class asking for various items including feminine hygiene products, lotion, and deodorant because they are unavailable in the school bathrooms, or because they are depleted at home.
Additionally, students ask for other products to help them look and feel their best such as acne medication and hair products that are otherwise unavailable to them, and healthy snacks to help them stay focused throughout the day.
Maslow suggests that before individuals meet their full potential, they need to satisfy a series of needs. As an educator, I find this theory eternally relevant for students and adults, especially in our classrooms.
