My students are sweet and love to have fun. I work in Autistic Support in an urban high school where we share students. They have a lot of personality and we teach them life skills, health and hygiene, and the basics of reading and math.
They love to learn and interact with real-life.
My students work hard and they are excited and eager to learn. Many come from low socio-economic backgrounds, so we try to be as creative as possible with what we have.
Many times our students do not have enough to eat. While our schools try to offset this by offering free breakfast and lunch, it can be hard for growing teenagers to feel full and satisfied.
Kids need healthy snacks!
Sometimes it just takes a small bag of crackers or chips to stave off hunger and keep students focused. Snacks and juice can also be used as incentives to keep kids motivated. Allowing for a variety of options for students to choose from, and taking into account for allergies, my classroom can be a safe and secure place for students.
