Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our inner-city school, students walk through our doors each day carrying more than just backpacks—they carry the weight of housing instability, community violence, grief, and other challenges that no child should have to face alone. As the school social worker, I am continually inspired by their strength, creativity, and deep capacity for empathy. I love how my students show up with resilience, even on their hardest days, and how they look out for one another in ways that speak to the power of community.

To nurture these qualities, I am seeking support to provide essential social-emotional resources—therapeutic games, sensory tools, culturally responsive books, art materials, and calming corner supplies.

Each of these tools will help students learn how to manage emotions, build self-awareness, and develop the social skills they need to thrive in the classroom and beyond. These aren’t just materials—they are pathways to healing, growth, and connection.

One item that will significantly enhance our space is the Short Cubby Bookcase. This shelf will allow me to create a welcoming and organized environment by displaying social-emotional learning books, calming tools, and sensory items in an accessible and visually calming way. For students who benefit from structure and visual cues, this display will help reduce anxiety and promote independence in choosing the supports they need.

Your donation directly supports our students’ ability to learn in a safe, affirming environment where they feel seen and supported. Together, we can ensure that every child has what they need to succeed emotionally, socially, and academically.
