Headphones, We Need Headphones!

My Students

I have the privilege this year of educating the minds of 29 fifth graders. However, I serve at a school where we are passionately educating over 900 amazing kids. Over nine hundred students who are eager to learn, excited about reading, mastering language arts, pumped about math, and so enthusiastic about the arts. However, they have come into this grade in the midst of a horrible pandemic, a pandemic that is shining a spotlight on the lack of equity within the school system.

This passionate group of students resides on the Southside of Chicago.

They are tasked with learning in the midst of racial tension, gang violence, and global unrest. However, they brave these issues with a resiliency unknown to me. My goal is to ensure that they have unlimited access to the resources needed despite their zip code.

My Project

In my 5th Grade classroom of 29, we believe in personalizing the learning experience for each student. We are able to accomplish this in a variety of ways, one way being an online math program that is both interactive and very engaging. This programs have been proven to be very effective, however, there is one thing hindering my students utmost success, headphones.

Twenty nine students with blaring computers, make it difficult to be successful and completely focused on their individual learning paths.

Providing headphones for the students will ensure that they can concentrate and remain engaged on each of the task presented to them.
