My students need headphones for testing and using the iReady curriculum provided by the school. Without headphones students will be unable to fully engage with the multimedia aspect of this powerful tool, and will miss out!
The students in this class represent the myriad cultures and communities that make the Seattle area a vibrant, exciting, and interesting place to live. Together we will explore, question, construct, relate, and come to better understand the world all around us.
Foremost, my students are kids: excitable, enthusiastic, curious, and wonderful!
We work hard so others may do their best work in a community that fosters respect, kindness, honesty, integrity, and efficacy; to empower students with the skills and attitudes of life-long learners.
My Project
I am a first year teacher setting up a brand new classroom. As the year fast approaches I am scrambling to have the tools and materials my students will need to achieve. After attending a training in the amazing iReady digital curriculum our school is utilizing this year, I was struck by the need for a set of student headphones for my classroom. iReady is a powerful curricular tool that provides both diagnostic data for teachers, and engages students in multimedia, differentiated learning games and activities to foster student growth in math and reading.
Without headphones my students will be forced to either endure a cacophony of noise during their recommended 90 minutes per week of iReady practice, or miss out on an important element (the sound) of an engaging multimedia learning-game experience.
Students will use headphones to access the audio portions of the iReady program, and other digital resources used throughout the year, while maintaining an appropriately quiet work environment in which other students may focus on different tasks.
It is with similar intent that I am also seeking to provide hearing protection headphones for my students. I have found these to be critical in providing focus for students who are easily distracted by neighbors (often on task) conversation, as well as for students who are prone to distracting others. Likewise, I would like to provide privacy blockers for students as an optional tool for those who need an extra-safe space to practice writing, drawing, or any other skill they may feel is not ready for public display. Privacy blockers are also crucial during testing and diagnostics to help ensure accurate data reflecting the skills and needs of individual students (and not their neighbors).
