"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world" -Nelson Mandela. A typical day in my classroom can be challenging when my students lack basic needs such as pencils and sharpeners. I would like to provide my students with the materials that they need to be successful.
My school is a Title I school with 100% of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch.
My students live in an inner-city area where basic needs are difficult to meet, and therefore, they cannot solely focus on learning to the best of their ability. As a class, we need so much and need to let our creative juices flow. Although we might not come in with a lot of background, my students have a love of learning and learn best when they are presented with material in multiple ways. I feel that it is important to give them access to different resources and activities to help to meet their individual needs. Many of my students have challenges such as learning disabilities, ESOL students, or being hearing and visually impaired. Their assignments have to be more specialized in order to meet their needs.
Since the pandemic began, my students have been learning at home. Sometimes they are working in the same room as siblings or other adults and their working environment is less quiet than a classroom setting. In order for them to be able to maximize their learning potential, my students will need to be able to tune out distractions.
Headphones will help my students to focus on instruction and concentrate on expressing their creativity on their digital literacy projects.
Your support will go a long way towards helping my students to continue to excel as they learn from their homes.
