Some of my students have not yet discovered books that capture their imaginations. This could be the year that magic happens and they fall in love with books. My goal by the end of the year is to have all my students wanting to read instead of sighing when I tell them its time for reading.
Our classroom is made up of 27 boys and girls who have a hidden passion for learning and reading.
The students excitement when they learn a new word is unreal. We are from a small community that supports the growth and education of our students as much as possible.
My Project
In our classroom, we currently rotate through 7 guided reading rotations a week. These headphones would be placed in two of our centers, listening and phonics. In our listening center, students plug into a CD player and listen to book on disk. Once they finish listening to the assigned book, students share their connections to the text with other students in their group. Listening center is their favorite! My students are counting down the days until they are able to go listen to the new book. Phonics center also contains a CD player on various days. This center not only helps students learn the different blends and vowels, but also helps them learn the key concept of following directions.
Our classroom goal is to have everyone enjoy reading and having these headphones in those centers will help tremendously.
Students will be able to listen to various types of books in listening without distracting the other groups. I want to impact my student lives with my love for reading to help theirs grow. One way to do this is sharing those books that caught my attention as a young child.
