Headphones to Get in the Zone

Help me give my students closed back dynamic headphones to use instead of uncomfortable earbuds.

My Students

I have a wonderful group of 4th and 5th-grade students that always come to school with a smile on their face. My students are all special needs students, with cognitive impairments. My students are culturally and ethnically diverse. All of my students are Title 1 students and come from poverty. Most of my students do not have the opportunity to engage in enrichment activities, such as visiting parks and museums, attending plays and concerts, and engaging in art and cooking.

My students find the traditional set-up of lecture, worksheets and workbooks difficult and mononotonous.

My students thrive with hands-on, interesting, meaningful activities. Connecting learning to real-life experiences is a must for my students. When my students finally understand a new concept they are so excited and their whole face lights up. It is a rewarding experience to see my students engaged in learning and making meaningful connections.

My Project

My students use earbuds daily. They use them to access curriculum, including reading, mathematics, writing and science. My students also use earbuds to reduce outside noise, self-regulate and focus on task completion. Currently my students have to share two headphones and several dollar store earbuds. Unfortunately the earbuds are easily broken, tangle easily and difficult to keep clean. Having new headphones will allow my students to have clean, sanitary, comfortable headphones. Adding the ten headphones will allow multiple students to have access to technology, curriculum content, and enrichment activities at the same time. Students with sensory processing difficulties and focusing difficulties will have increased opportunity to reduce excess noise and outside stimulation. Having multiple headphones will increase student attention, focus, and time on technology based curriculum which will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
