Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are eager to learn and are excited about using technology as a tool as most do not have internet access or computers at home. We are a Title 1 public school located in a low socio-economic neighborhood where one hundred percent of the students receive free breakfast and lunch and come from low income households. In order to promote technology skills, accelerate learning, and provide career and college resources, our school has two computer labs that unfortunately are not funded with safe, sturdy, volume protected headphones. In fact, most of our 60 stations have either broken, poor quality, or no headphones at all. This presents a challenge for all of our students who wish to access the labs both during and after school. Receiving funding for this project would fill a giant void in our ability to utilize technology to its fullest.
My Project
If this project is funded, the seven hundred students enrolled in our elementary school will be able to access the 60 computers in our labs with safe, volume limiting headphones.
This will enable them to participate in remedial and accelerated literacy and math activities as well as career and college exploration activities.
These headphones will greatly impact our students’ ability to interact with technology on a regular basis, both during and after school. The richness of the programs from with which they will interact will improve their college and career readiness and literacy skills. Our student population who have limited access to technology outside of the school setting will appreciate and value this interactive learning tool.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
