Headphones On, the Noise Off

Help me give my students headphones so we can use USA Test Prep, SplashLearn, Prodigy, and other online learning tools with videos and other interactive elements.

My Students

I work in a Title I school in a rural area. A large population of learners I serve are from low-income households and qualify for free or reduced lunches at school.

My third graders are vibrant, energetic, caring, and enthusiastic students who thrive on learning through new experiences.

My kids love when we get to do something "different" as they like to say. They come in every day with a smile on their faces and ready to live the day to the fullest.

My classroom consists of a wide variety of learners. I currently have four English Language Learners, twelve students being served in the Early Intervention Program (EIP), eight students on grade level, and four students receiving Gifted services.

My students favorite parts of the day are when I read to them and when we get to share in morning meetings about our lives outside of school.

My Project

I would love to be able to provide my students with headphones to use while they are at school. These headphones will help students be able to have materials read aloud to them on many of the online programs we use on a daily basis.

Classrooms today are filled with online opportunities for our 21st century learners; for many of these digital activities, students need headphones to truly engage and interact.

I would really appreciate help in getting these materials for my students! Our school system has purchased a variety of programs in which students would find headphones helpful. One such example is USA Test Prep. This program has videos to teach skills, fun games to practice skills taught, and it even has an option for reading questions aloud to students. Additionally, students enjoy using headphones on engaging sites such as SplashLearn and Prodigy to practice math skills.

Headphones create a level playing field for all the students in my class. They allow for students who are not yet fluent readers to be successful because they are able to have material read aloud to them. Also, being able to use headphones helps my English Language Learner students who are able to constantly hear fluent reading modeled and see the words while they are being read aloud to them without having the frustration of trying to decode the words without support.
