My Students

Teaching in a high-needs, Title I school, my students are often faced with challenges outside of the classroom. They are often unable to access technology outside of school hours for various reasons, including both socio-economic status and stressful family situations.

My goal is to do my part in closing the achievement gap within my own district by providing students with opportunities to be fully exposed to and excited about all of their academic content.

I also aim to help them see the relevance to them!

Most of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch due to their families' socioeconomic status. This means their stresses outside of the classroom are regarding more basic needs. This puts them at a disadvantage in their early lives, to their peers competing for college admissions and eventually, jobs down the road.

They are hardworking, motivated and engaged in any content I present to them!

My Project

My students are lucky enough this year to have access to 1 computer for every 2 students daily. This has been wonderful for exposing them to more tech, making them more familiar with typing, and jumping into more frequent daily experiences on the computer!

Many programs however, require the volume up to be able to fully access the materials.

With over a dozen computers going at once, this creates a chaotic classroom environment where almost no one can succeed.

I want to provide headphones for my students so that they can each individually succeed on projects at different speeds, and on completely different topics! We are loving coding but haven't been able to work with sound projects, and we love learning new languages but can't listen to examples currently, to practice our pronunciation.

These headphones will allow for these kinds of experiences and so much more! Further, they will support all my students in focusing on the task at hand and ultimately learning even more with fewer distractions from their neighbors.
