Headphones in the Classroom!

My students need headphones! They are digital learners, and we are in need of the headphones to listen to assignments and watch educational videos as well as podcasts.

My Students

I teach social studies in Brooklyn, New York. Our school is a Title I school. We have a 100% free and reduced priced lunch population. Our student population is 3% Hispanic and 97% African American. 46% of our students have IEPS. The students have technical knowledge, but due to economic restrictions they do not have technology access.

My kids are an energetic and fun loving bunch.

They are genuinely interested in learning and technology. Due to the extremely high rate of special education students in my school, listening to assignments, having soothing music on, and being able to have multiple ways to read is of the utmost importance. We are a new middle school in Brownsville, Brooklyn that is technologically based. We have received grants to purchase laptops and primarily interact with students and their families via email. All of our students receive Goggle email addresses and all work is completed via Goggle Drive. The one thing we lack is access to headphones for alternative learners.

My Project

We aim to have multiple entry points for learning. Studies have shown that certain types of learners are able to comprehend more information when it is read aloud to them. We aim to create a space in which all students are able to succeed. Headphones will help us to access learners that otherwise easily fall behind. Headphones will ensure that each student is able to receive individualized instruction.

By donating to my classroom you will ensure that all students are able to participate, feel successful, and become technologically advanced citizens of our society.

Headphones may seem like an odd request, but they are truly an integral part of the modern day learning experience!
